Nice Guys™ or Nice Guy Syndrome is a pejorative term referring to a social stereotype commonly associated with young men or women (less common, Nice Girls™) who view themselves as caring and empathetic to their target to gain leverage in their perceived courtship. Not to be confused with men and women who are authentically nice and kind.

Nice Guys™ are often criticized by both men and women because of how they see any interaction with a woman as a payment towards a reward system, it’s all transactional to their end goal which is usually a romantic or sexual relationship. They believe that they pay with “nice” tokens to the woman vending machine and out pops one sex.

How Nice Guys think sex works. Image of Morty from Rick & Morty showing a stamp card.

Unaware Wolves. Frequently Nice Guys™ are completely unaware that they are Nice Guys™. They go through the choreography they’ve seen and rehearsed of kindness and can’t figure out why they aren’t given their just desserts As Seen On TV. After all, they have opened doors for women, complimented strangers on their appearance, bought a coworker they have never spoken to flowers, even been a shoulder to cry on for their friend that broke up with her boyfriend. Why won’t these women exchange sex for all the nice things…
